Copper braziery is £7.30–£7.50 per kg (£7,300–£7,500 per tonne), verified 25 Oct 2026.
Braziery copper is clean, unalloyed copper that carries soldered or brazed joints — typically plumbing tube and fittings that have been cut out of a heating system. It sits below clean copper tube because the solder must be refined out.

How yards grade copper braziery
- Copper pipe and sheet with soldered or brazed joints still attached is the classic braziery load.
- The copper itself must be clean — paint, lagging, plaster and heavy corrosion push the load into mixed copper instead.
- Brass fittings left on the pipe are a contamination issue; some yards accept small amounts, others grade the whole bag down.
- Burnt or tinned wire does not belong in braziery — it goes into mixed copper.
How to prepare it
- Cut off brass fittings and valves and bag them separately as brass — brass is worth less than copper, so leaving it attached loses you money twice.
- Remove foam lagging, paint and plaster before weighing.
- If you can cut soldered joints off cleanly, the remaining plain tube may qualify for the higher clean-tube grade.
- Keep braziery separate from mixed copper and from clean tube so each bag earns its own grade.
What affects the price
- Copper market reference prices, which can move daily.
- The amount of solder and brass in the load, which the yard must pay to separate.
- Cleanliness — lagging, paint and plaster all reduce the rate.
- Load size and sorting quality.
The rules when you sell
Under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013, a licensed dealer in England or Wales cannot pay cash for scrap metal — payment must be by bank transfer or cheque. The dealer must also verify and record your identity, so bring photo ID and proof of address. These rules apply to every dealer, not just one yard.
Copper Braziery FAQs
How much is 1kg of copper braziery worth today?
Copper braziery is £7.30 – £7.50 per kg at Simvic in Chertsey (verified 25 Oct 2026). 5 kg would be worth about £36.50 – £37.50. Final price depends on condition; confirm before travelling.
Why is braziery copper worth less than clean copper tube?
Solder contains tin and sometimes lead, which contaminate the melt and cost money to refine out. A yard pays less for braziery than for clean tube to cover that processing — on our confirmed list the two grades are priced separately per kg.
Should I cut the soldered joints off my copper pipe?
If you have the time and a pipe cutter, yes: plain tube with joints removed can grade as clean copper tube, which pays more per kg. The offcuts with joints still go in as braziery, so nothing is wasted.
Can I be paid cash for scrap copper?
No. The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 bans cash payments for scrap metal at licensed dealers in England and Wales. Expect a bank transfer, and bring photo ID and proof of address.
