Lead Scrap Price per kg today — £1.10–£1.15 (25 Oct)

Lead is £1.10–£1.15 per kg (£1,100–£1,150 per tonne), verified 25 Oct 2026.

Lead is very dense, soft and dull grey. Most scrap lead comes from roofing work — sheet, flashing and old pipe — as well as vehicle wheel weights.

Because roofing lead theft is a known problem, licensed dealers record seller details carefully. Selling lead from a building you work on may prompt questions about its origin.

Lead battery scrap price

Lead-acid batteries are £0.10–£0.15 per kg (£100–£150 per tonne), verified 25 Oct 2026. A complete lead-acid battery is a separate buying grade, not a bundle of clean lead sheet. Its case and electrolyte mean the lead headline rate should not be applied to the whole battery. Keep batteries intact and upright, never drain acid or dismantle them for metal, and confirm acceptance before taking them to the buyer. Lithium batteries are not this grade.

Scrap lead prices

Lead is £1.10–£1.15 per kg (£1,100–£1,150 per tonne), verified 25 Oct 2026. This is the listed lead grade, distinct from the separate lead-acid battery price. Roofing flashing can carry mortar, nails or felt; those attachments affect grading and the weight that can be valued as lead. Remove loose contamination safely and keep doubtful materials apart. Wear gloves and wash your hands after handling lead, and retain evidence that the material is yours to sell.

How to identify lead

  • Lead is extremely heavy for its size, soft enough to scratch with a fingernail, and non-magnetic.
  • Fresh cuts are bright silver and quickly dull to grey.
  • Wheel weights may have steel clips or be made of zinc or steel instead of lead.

Preparation and contamination

  • Wear gloves and wash your hands after handling lead; do not eat or drink while handling it.
  • Remove nails, mortar and roofing felt.
  • Keep wheel weights separate from clean sheet lead.

What affects the price

  • Lead market reference prices.
  • Cleanliness — attached mortar, paint and steel reduce value.
  • Proof of origin for roofing lead.

Lead price FAQs

No. Under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013, licensed dealers in England and Wales cannot pay for scrap metal in cash. Expect a bank transfer or cheque, and bring photo ID and proof of address, which dealers are required to record.
