Scrap Cable Prices UK per kg — £2.50–£3.00 (25 Oct)
Household cable is £2.50–£3.00 per kg (£2,500–£3,000 per tonne), verified 25 Oct 2026.
Insulated cable is priced on how much copper (or aluminium) a yard expects to recover once the insulation is removed. That recovery rate — sometimes called yield — can range widely from cable to cable.
Thick single-core cable with a lot of copper and thin insulation is worth much more per kilogram than thin data cable or household flex, where plastic makes up most of the weight.

Scrap cables price FAQs
How much is scrap scrap cables worth per kg today?
The headline scrap cables grade, Household cable, is up to £3.00 per kg at Simvic in Chertsey (verified 25 Oct 2026). Lower grades and contaminated material pay less; confirm before travelling.
Should I strip cable myself?
For thick cable, stripping can be worthwhile because bright copper wire is a higher grade. For thin cable it is rarely worth the time. Never burn cable.
Will a London scrap yard pay me in cash?
No. Under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013, licensed dealers in England and Wales cannot pay for scrap metal in cash. Expect a bank transfer or cheque, and bring photo ID and proof of address, which dealers are required to record.
